EGO IS NOT YOUR AMIGO
If we look at progressive training as a stair case. Each step has been built, measured, and crafted in place to serve the purpose of helping you reach your training goals.
Let's recognise for every step you take. The steps get smaller in surface area, taller in height, and the incline becomes steeper. These changes are subtle, yet still take place. Which would make them very difficult to climb the higher you went, wouldn't they? I disagree.
If you had carefully taken each step, you would have adjusted to the incline, the height, and the decrease in size of the surface area. And this stair case we now know as "Progressive Training", is never ending.
It also has many peaks and valleys. Never do we just travel up this staircase. We go up, down, side to side backwards and all over. Ego, is almost always responsible for making people trip. Comparison is the death of joy, and in this case your progress also. Your body, doesn't know the difference between a 22.5kg Dumbbell and a 12.5kg Dumbbell. But, it does recognise time under tension and duration of intensity.
As in, how long I am under tension for, and how consistent is the intensity. If we were to be even more specific about consistency of our intensity, we could say holding a certain heart rate is a way of measuring that.
Going back, you need to make choices that are going to benefit you and only you. I'll tell you this, no one ever remembers what weight you did, what time you finished, and what skill progression you did during a workout.
And if they do, or they consistently ask you, congratulations you have someone who is more worried about your progress than their own. They likely care about having a title of having done something "harder" than what you did.
Your ego will be the death of your progress. So leave it at the door, where some fun socks and have fun with your training. Enjoy the process and be less fixated about what the outcome is and might be. Let that be the by product of your choices, your smart, step by step choices.
Up the staircase we go.
